Patient Information and Patient and Carer Involvement

Providing patients, their families and carers with information and a voice is very important to us.

We have dedicated members of staff to help us do this effectively.  They also work with and support our partner organisations in their efforts to do the same.

Patient Information

Good Information is vital to help people understand and learn as much as they want to about their cancer, available treatment and potential outcomes. They also need to know where they can get support and other services available to themselves and their families.

Macmillan Cancer Support fund a Patient Information Manager for TVCN, who co-ordinates a range of projects to make sure people get the right information, at the right time, in the right format as it is needed.

The Patient Information Manager also leads on the introduction of the national Patient Information Prescription Service – a new service that provides an online ‘one stop shop’ where people can get the most relevant and up to date information on cancer services from one place, without having to search lots of different places.

Patient/User Involvement

We also support a thriving and active body of ‘Patient User Representatives’ (User Representatives) – people who have had cancer, are going through treatment or care for someone with cancer.  They offer their time and experiences to help shape cancer services for others.

Their input into service-planning, projects and a range of meetings is invaluable to TVCN, and User Representatives have positively influenced many aspects of cancer care over the years.

TVCN has a User Involvement Lead, who co-ordinates the group and supports members on a day to day basis.
