Thames Valley Cancer Research Network (TVCRN)
Thames Valley Cancer Research Network provides 6 hospital trusts within its geographical area with research support infrastructure to undertake high quality cancer clinical studies. It works in conjunction with funders and stakeholders to improve the speed, quality and integration of research, resulting ultimately in improved care for all patients in the Thames Valley. The Thames Valley Cancer Research Network is committed to contributing to the quality of cancer care: For more details, please see our Strategy Document for 2011-2014, created by staff from all seven research teams in the six NHS Trusts and by consumer members.
This is overseen by a small core management team based with the Thames Valley Cancer Network (TVCN) at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford.
Cancer research staff work in seven teams based in each of the six acute NHS hospital trusts (see below) that deliver cancer care, with the addition of a paediatric research team based at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital.
Set up in 2001, a steady growth in the number of cancer clinical trials open and available to offer patients has been observed. Recruitment of patients into cancer clinical trials has increased substantially with overall entry exceeding the national target of 10% of the cancer incidence each year since 2005.
TVCRN interlinks and works closely with TVCN.
